Scrivener does have a ‘Backup Now’ function but on the Mac version, there’s no shortcut key assigned to this and even if there were, it wouldn’t shut the application down afterward. The other option to consider is that File/Close may have been assigned a different shortcut through the keyboard options, though that’s something that would have been done manually. Obviously, Scrivener (with Backup on Project Close activated) kicks in a backup (as it should) and then the app closes. Alt-F will open the File menu and X will close the application. What’s more likely is that you’re accidentally pressing Alt-F then X. Is there any way you could be accidentally pressing Alt-F4 as you type? I’m forever accidentally invoking the dictation option when I’m typing, so it may be possible but F4 is high on the keyboard. Not easy though… I think in Windows (I run Mac) that’s Alt-F4. If this window is suddenly appearing and then the app is shutting down, it sounds like you’re shutting down Scrivener by hitting the shortcut key to do that. Dianemoody Hi Diane, this looks like you’re running Scrivener for Windows, yes? Rebecca may correct me here but I think the default backup option for Scrivener is to backup on Project close.
